Day 14 - Blagovegrad to near Katerini (Greece) - 5th June 2024

Got out of the van having slept better than at Steensel. The 3 beers may have helped. 

Used the facilities and left. 

I'm a truck driver :)

Fabulous new motorway as far as Simitli then boom 2 lanes one each way no overtaking for 10 to 12 miles. I had some Bulgarian Lev left over from our last trip so bought petrol with them. 

I always planned on coming through Bulgaria I wonder what changed my mind? To the Bulgarian exit and Greek entry border. Relatively painless though it looked horrendous for lorries! 

Afterwards headed towards Thessaloniki still having mobile data problems so I ended up on some industrial estate! Then managed to head back into town and find a McDonalds. 

Top tip: McDonalds typically have great WiFi 

Found the campsite I’d seen on Park 4 the night. Small village just past Katerini. Campsite is practically on the beach. Stoney spot but I brought out the big tent pegs and hammered them in! 

The lady at reception said the local taverna shut at 6 pm. When in reality it was 8pm. Anyway cycled over and had a great meal - Greek salad, Fries and a big plate of sardines plus a very nice cold beer for @ 20 Euros. 

Rolled back to the campsite. Did a bit on the blog - but can't upload pictures as takes too long.

They are still setting up for the season- speakers. TVs and installing Starlink! Went to the bar area to write some blog and they gave me a beer but I couldn’t pay for it they will add it to my bill! 6mb for the whole camp isn’t much which is why I can’t see they are going for Starlink! 

Then some Hungarian beer and bed.
